Perfect Poached Eggs

Perfect poached eggs , should be so simple but yet sometimes it can be an elusive beast.

We love poached eggs in our family, we generally have one most mornings (we have our own lovely free range eggs)

Poaching the perfect egg is not always as straightforward as we would like it to be right! I’ve read and heard many different opinions on how to poach the perfect egg and yes I’ve tried most of them in my search for the holy grail.

Some  methods I’ve seen are so involved and complicated why would you bother, all to hard….

Some say swirl the water around when putting the eggs in others say, add LOTS of salt and some recommend using poaching cups/rings to put your eggs in but they are generally a drag to clean.

All that mucking around certainly puts me off poaching eggs for breakfast.

Well here is our quick simple and REAL easy method

Get a deep fry pan and fill it 2/3rd full of water, just enough to cover the eggs once you put them in.

Place your fry pan on the element and turn up to high. Add a splash of malt vinegar (about 2 tablespoons) and give it a stir. Don’t worry you won’t be able to taste the malt vinegar, all it does is helps hold the egg together in the water.

Wait for the water to boil then turn the heat down to low so the water is just gently simmering.

Crack the egg and then place gently into the water, try to get the egg as close to the water as possible when putting it in(without burning your fingers), the lower the egg has to fall into the water the better. Repeat if you are doing multiple eggs.

simmer on low  heat for 4 – 4 1/2 minutes,  the timing is critical. Once the time is up remove them from the water with a slotted spoon , done! you now have the perfect REAL yummy egg.

Serve your eggs by themselves or with your favourite additions such as toast, or bacon, avocado, tomatoes, spinach or salmon to name a few.

Season with  salt and pepper as desired and there you have it the REAL yummy absolutely delicious healthy poached eggs , furthermore you only have one frying pan to clean up!!
