Herbal Tea

Herbal teas are wonderful and a great way to really enjoy numerous medicinal qualities.  They can be enjoyed hot or as ice teas, I love making a big batch of ginger tea and keeping it in the fridge and making some of the brew into ice cubes which are great added to smoothies such as this Sneaky Banana Smoothie  and so refreshing on a hot day.

GINGER

steep 4 thin slices in the boiled water for 15 minutes

PARSLEY

steep a handful of washed leaves in the boiled water for 15 minutes

These are our favourite ones  that are easy to do at home if you want to give it a go.

My daughter (aged 9) went on a school trip last year and they learnt about our beautiful native New Zealand bush and how some of the plants are edible and how some, like this kawakawa tea which can help a whole list of aliments.

So she  and her brother (he’s 5) went off and  found some kawakawa leaves, carefully washed them all and got their Daddy to boil the water and patiently waited for the tea to steep,  they wanted to share it  with you.

Many people consider this native New Zealand tree a weed, but it’s medicinal qualities are extensive and very beneficial.   Its fresh peppery taste is very refreshing.

Enjoy your steeped tea hot or ice cold.
